Having been let down by another company, who failed to carry out their due diligence and clearly just wanted to pass the issue on to somebody else, I was left with no hot water or heating and no clear solution. I called Ben, and he was able to come out the same day. He carried out all the correct tests, quickly found the gas leak, retested the drop rates, confirmed everything was safe, and got my gas switched back on. Ben was an absolute legend in my hour of need — professional, thorough, and genuinely caring. I will always use him from now on. I would highly recommend his service!

Ben quickly attended and soon established that the gas supply had been ‘capped’ off. Supply was restored and I had hot water and heating. Ben also talked through the thermostat with me. Most Common Boiler Problems & Reasons for Breakdown

Most boiler breakdowns come down to a handful of recurring issues. Loss of pressure is one of the most common. Your boiler needs a minimum pressure to run safely, and a drop usually points to a small leak or a recent bleed of the radiators. No heat or hot water can be caused by anything from a faulty thermostat to a broken diaphragm or airlock, while strange noises (banging, whistling or gurgling, sometimes called “kettling”) often mean limescale or sludge build-up inside the system. A frozen condensate pipe is a frequent issue in cold weather, causing the boiler to cut out entirely, and pilot light or ignition faults can leave older boilers unable to fire up at all.

Regular servicing catches most of these issues before they cause a full breakdown, which is exactly why manufacturers and most warranties recommend an annual check. If your boiler’s already showing one of these signs, don’t wait for it to fail completely.

What's included in a boiler service?

Common items covered in a standard boiler service (varies slightly by manufacturer, but these are the checks most engineers cover as standard):

Visual inspection of the boiler casing, pipework and flue for damage or corrosion
Gas pressure check: confirming the boiler is burning gas at the correct rate
Flue and ventilation check: making sure fumes are safely vented and there’s no blockage
Heat exchanger inspection: checking for scale, corrosion or leaks
Seals and joints check: looking for gas or water leaks
Ignition and burner check: confirming the boiler fires up correctly and burns cleanly
Condensate trap and pipe check: clearing any blockages that could cause shutdowns
Safety device test: confirming the boiler shuts off correctly if something goes wrong
Water pressure check: making sure the system pressure is within the safe range

How long does a boiler service take?

Most services take 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the boiler type and manufacturer.

What if we find something wrong with your boiler?

If something needs fixing, we won’t carry out repair work without agreeing it with you first. We carry some small generic parts on the van, but most parts come from our suppliers so a repair may need a follow-up visit once the part’s in.
